The Racing Beat high performance Rear Oil Pressure Regulator is designed for use on all 1971-1992 12A, 13B, and 20B engines and interchanges exactly with the stock unit. As supplied by Mazda, the factory pressure regulator is intended to bypass at maximum nominal rate of 71.1 PSI. For use on higher performance street applications the Racing Beat regulator can be substituted, which bypasses at a higher maximum nominal rate of 80-85 PSI.
As a general rule, oil pressure should be increased as the horsepower output and engine RPM increases. As horsepower and RPM demands increase, it is beneficial to have higher oil pressure between the shaft and bearings to prevent possible catastrophic contact between spinning components. Additionally, as oil pressure is increased, flow rate also increases – hence, more oil is available to cool the bearings and rotors.

The High Performance Rear Oil Pressure Regulator interchanges exactly with the stock rear oil pressure regulator on all 1971-2008 12A, 13B, and 20B engines. This oil pressure regulator is designed to bypass at 105-115 PSI. (Pressure this high should be used only for racing). When using this regulator, the front pressure regulator should be shimmed an 1/8-inch to ensure that it does not limit the oil pressure (shims included).
As a general rule, oil pressure should be increased as the horsepower output and engine RPM increases. As horsepower and RPM demands increase, it is beneficial to have higher oil pressure between the shafts and bearings to prevent possible catastrophic contact between spinning components. Additionally, as oil pressure is increased, flow rate also increases – hence, more oil is available to cool the bearings and rotors.
Tech Notes:
– The 1993-95 13B Twin Turbo the factory rear oil pressure regulator bypasses at a maximum nominal rate of 110 PSI.
-The 2004-2008 RX-8 Renesis engine factory rear oil pressure regulator bypasses at a maximum nominal rate of 80 PSI.
– The 2009-2011 RX-8 Renesis engine is not equipped with a rear pressure regulator. Nominal oil maximum oil pressure on this application is 110-115 PSI. We do not offer a regulator to increase the oil pressure on this application.
