Down Pipe with Presilencer – 1988 RX-7 Convertible Non-Turbo (w/Manual Transmission) – The 1986-92 13B 6-port engines, in stock form with the factory fuel injection, produces similar power gains with either our Header/Presilencer combo or our RX-7 Down Pipe/Presilencer combination. If you have no intentions of installing RB’s Holley intake System (or any other aftermarket carb set-up), we recommend the use of the down pipe/Presilencer combo since it offers a slightly quieter exhaust note, is easier to install and less costly. If you are intending to upgrade the intake or fuel injection system, the Header/Presilencer combo offers the greatest performance potential.
The 1988 RX-7 Convertible (w/ Manual Transmission) Down Pipe/Presilencer combination incorporates a 2.5-inch O.D. Down Pipe and our perforated stainless steel core and stainless steel wool-packed Presilencer to boost power approximately 13% – an 18 horsepower increase on a 1987 RX 7- and maintain a comfortable exhaust noise level during full power driving.
The replacement pipe connects to the factory exhaust manifold, and the presilencer connects to the factory Y-pipe, replacing all catalytic converters and intermediate tubing. (The downpipe cannot be used as a “bolt-up” component to replace just the catalytic converters.)
The Racing Beat presilencer is equipped with an exhaust back-pressure tube for correct operation of the 6-port actuators. Installation of this requires the removal of the air control and check valve and the air pump. This kit includes all necessary mounting hardware, air control & check valve cover plate, and gaskets (1 Back Pressure Pick-up and 3 Replacement Pipe-to-Presilencer gaskets).

This Down Pipe is available for use in a 1988-92 RX-7 Convertible application. This 2.5″ OD Down Pipe bolts directly to the stock exhaust manifold and eliminates all catalytic converters, but the use of our presilencer (or a suitable replacement) is required to connect this assembly to the Y-pipe section. If you need to retain a catalytic converter in your exhaust system, you may find a suitable unit offered in the aftermarket. Although the replacement of your stock catalytic converters with a single aftermarket unit is technically NOT legal, this approach may suit your emissions needs. We suggest you contact your local emissions testing facility for more information. Gaskets sold separately.

The Racing Beat Y-pipe for the 1986-92 RX-7 (All Models) is a perfect replacement for a failing stock component. The Racing Beat Y-pipe is slightly larger in diameter than the stock non-turbo Y-pipe, and matches the diameter (2.5″ OD) of the stock TURBO II Y-pipe. Therefore, if you are replacing the muffler(s) on a TURBO II application, and unless the original stock Y-pipe is failing, there is no performance benefit to be gained from the addition of this Y-pipe. This Y-pipe includes the Cat-to-Y-pipe gasket. If needed, the Y-pipe outlet gaskets can be purchased separately. Manufactured by Racing Beat using heavy-walled steel tubing and laser cut flanges then finished with a chrome-plated surface coating for excellent durability.
Replacement Rubber Exhaust Hangers
We recommend the replacement of the original rubber exhaust hangers during the installation of any new exhaust component. It is our experience that over time the original rubber hangers can deteriorate, crack, and fail; which can result in the incorrect alignment of the exhaust system.SKU: 16447 -

Racing Beat offers the complete Full Stainless Steel Road Race RX-7 Exhaust System for the 1986-88 RX-7. This completely Stainless Steel RX-7 exhaust system is intended for use on RX-7 applications running under the extremes of road racing, drag racing, or any high performance, high RPM application. The Racing Beat Full Stainless Steel RX-7 dual exhaust system has been designed to maximize the exhaust gas scavenging benefits while maintaining reasonable sound level outputs.
NOTE: This exhaust system is not compatible with automatic transmission equipped-vehicles due to interference issues with the bell housing.

1986-88 RX-7 Road Race Header
The Racing Beat Road Race Header for the 1986-88 13B 6-Port chassis features stainless steel construction for excellent durability. Also incorporated with this header is the requisite exhaust back-pressure pickup tube, necessary to assure the correct operation of the 6-port intake actuators mounted on the engine. (If you have removed these intake actuators or have rendered them inoperable, you can install the 1989-92 Road Race system instead.)Road Race Presilencer
Mating to the outlet of the header is the Racing Beat Road Race Presilencer. The straight-through dual presilencer unit offers beneficial sound reducing qualities by trapping a significant level of the harsh rotary exhaust note.Road Race Y-Pipe
The Racing Beat Y-Pipe section routes the exhaust gases exiting the presilencer section to each of the Power Pulse muffler units.Road Race Mufflers (Left and Right Pair)
Sharing the same design technology as our Power Pulse muffler units, the Road Race mufflers (Left and Right) feature all stainless steel construction for superior durability and appearance.
