This will also work in 79-82 cars, but you will have to source a 83-85 differential flange which is discontinued new, or use an 83-85 rear end. Typically, you would swap in an 84-85 rear in a performance application because the axles are bigger and stronger than the 79-83.

This is an aftermarket driveshaft for all 86-92 non-turbo with automatic transmission.. It is much less expensive than a factory OEM shaft.
Note: The factory Mazda OEM driveshafts from ’83-on have non-replaceable U-joints — you have to buy a new driveshaft if they wear out.
The aftermarket driveshafts we offer are completely new, balanced and ready to install. They incorporate traditional replaceable u-joints so you can rebuild them if you ever wear them out.

If you get a “chatter” from the rear axle when starting from a stop, and turning at the same time, you need to add this additive to your rear end oil. This is due to the clutches in the differential locking and un-locking. The Limited Slip Additive assists with the applying and releasing of the clutch plates. One container/part number needed per rear end oil change.
For clutch type limited slips – all OEM’s through 1988. The later ones are either viscous or Torsen type and do not require additive.
